The Emmaus Hotel really was just one hundred yards from the
Vatican, which was a surprise as things aren’t always
the same as they are described on the Internet. Our room
was spacious and comfortable and had ample space for our two
young children and us. The cost was competitive as it
was high season, but we were happy with the service received
for the price paid. We found the Vatican very impressive
and the area of Trastevere to the south very charming and interesting. The
ancient part of the city around the Coloseum was not very close,
but as long as you don’t have mobility problems, a stroll
down the river and across the medieval heart of the city was
one of the most pleasant experiences of the trip! A word
of advise, it is struggle to see everything of note in two
or three days I would suggest you spend at least five in this
truly magnificent city.

As we were primarily
going to Rome to visit the Vatican and see the Pope, we intentionally
looked for a Hotel in this area. There
were several expensive choices, or places that were a little
far away, but in the end we went for the Emmaus because of
it’s vicinity and fair prices. We were very happy
from the moment we arrived and the Hotel has the feel of a
family run business where all the staff were friendly and relaxed. The
position was fantastic, and I believe we couldn’t have
possibly been any closer to the Vatican if we had looked for
a room for days! I found this trip to Rome one of the
most spiritually enjoyable experiences of my life. Seeing
people from all over the world gathering to hear the Holy Father
speak will be an experience I will carry with me vividly for
the rest of my life.

We were a little hesitant about our booking
at the Emmaus as it was quite a bit cheaper than what the other
Hotels were offering us, but we were put at ease once we got
to our room. The
lay out is simple and comfortable, and the rooms are big enough
compared to other European Hotels, but I guess that’s
because its an old building and not a purpose-built Hotel. The
breakfast was the usual continental stuff but good enough,
and the staff were always friendly and welcoming and they seemed
relaxed and happy in their work. The location was excellent
and we spent a great deal of time simply in the Vatican as
it was right in front of the building. The tours organised
for us by the manager made seeing the rest of the city stress
free. Summary? Excellent position, excellent prices
and really sweet and friendly staff, what else do you need
from a hotel when seeing Rome?
